Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

Understand by observing the environment, infrastructure, culture and lives of people by being there.

Localized solutions in my mind are the most stable solutions because they are made by the people facing the problem. If you are not experiencing the problem, chances are you do not have the will or motivation to do anything about it. You will also not understand the problem as well as someone experiencing it.

Being able to go somewhere to experience a problem I am trying to find a solution to is always something that I have wanted do. I have been lucky enough to go to the rain forests in Australia and from this I was able to better understand the intricate relationships between the creatures disappearing and the forests that are quickly following them. Living in Austin all my life, I thought I understood the problems the city was having with homelessness and gentrification. It was not until I moved into the East side of the city, where the problems are most apparent that I truly understood the scope.

Knowing that being able to be in a place when you are working on solutions, I will be able to more readily help the people in my communities and have a more open mind towards people in the communities that I visit. Trying to understand someones problem comes from more than a book or lecture. Talking to the people who are having the problem is when solutions are found.

Hi Dawnielle! I couldn't agree more with this post - often our biggest mistake in trying to "help" is not fully understanding the complexity of local context.

Absolutely! You don't know until you're there, and even then you won't know until you've listened for a while. Just the act of listening can oftentimes be the most profound impact you have.

Very true! You've brought up an important point here. It takes first-hand experience and knowledge to truly understand. Do you think that having people think they understand without having experienced it can lead to "gaps" in society? A "gap" between those who truly know and those who don't.

The idea of a gap between people in society because of local knowledge is one that probably does hold water. Most of the time, when people are discussing solutions to problems of poverty it is because they have the leisure of time to solve the "problems", while the people experiencing the problems are having to just exist with them because of a lack of resources that enable them to change anything. I might try to expand on this theory in a later blog post.

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development.The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
