My favorite secret to social innovation is actually a reflection of EVOKE as a wh***.
"Provide skills, not just finished technologies."
It's an old, old saying. "Give a man a fish, and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he will be fed for a lifetime." I can think of no simpler definition of the secret.
I believe in the power of knowledge. I believe that knowing that knowledge is power is empowering. I believe that people who feel empowered by what they learn are more likely to want to learn more.
By having an obvious demonstration that learning some particular skill is bettering oneself and one's community, one would be more likely to continue along that path and bring others with them.
I'm being vague for a reason - these skills could refer to surviving in developing worlds, but they can also refer to participating in EVOKE.
We're learning the skills needed to save the world - if the world was suddenly 'fixed' and handed over to us, we wouldn't have the capability of keeping it that way!
