Well, there are two ways in which I am contributing to someone's food security:
1) About three or four months ago my Mum, (after considerable time on a waiting list), finally got an allotment (
here's the Wikipedia page in case you don't know what an allotment is) and whenever I've visited her I've normally helped her with it, doing things like digging h***s and planting potatoes. I am now considering getting my own allotment, especially now that I will be able to call myself something cool like a "farmpunk"
2) I attend a music group run by the local youth support agency called
The Zone. The Zone also runs participatory meetings where young people who use their services have the opportunity to make suggestions about how the Zone is run and bring up any ideas they may have for improving it. I now plan to find out when the next meeting is and attend so that I can put forward the suggestion of starting a youth group centred around farmpunk and personal food security. Since many of the young people involved with the Zone suffer financial problems I think educating them and motivating them about food security could be very helpful to them. I will create another post to report on my progress.
