David James Begbie was one of the 5 keynote speakers at the EARCOS Global Issues Network Conference 2010. I was lucky enough to have the oppurtunity to attend and to hear people from all walks of life talk about how they used a simple idea to make a big difference. The first, and the speaker who made the biggest impact on me, was David Begbie. His enthusiasm just saturated everyone in the audience and really made me enticed about what he had to say. He talked about how there were soo many people and corporations out there willing to help and donate to those who needed them most, but what they were missing was the communication. The connection to find each other. Linking those who want to give and help with those who needed the most help. So he started a foundation called Crossroads with his parents Malcolm and Sally Begbie. What they do is help the NGO out there to connect with the people, channeling goods that would otherwise end up on landfills to people who would benefit the most from them. I was greatly impressed with the connections this NGO was making in the world. Crossroad which is based in Hong Kong also has a fairtrade store, which is helping locals from all over the region. By staying linked to what they are currently doing through their website:
http://www.crossroads.org.hk/ and the facebook group CROSSROADS INTERNATIONAL, I can contribute my time to them somehow and make connections between our community and theirs.
