A crash course in changing the world.

Dr Sakena Yacoobi, founder and president of Afgan Institute of Learning

About women rights, I have seen a lot of blog posts about Afghan women, and I think too that women in this country certainly need more help than the others, because of the poverty, the religious fundamentalism and the war.

So i have chosen to talk, and try helping Dr Sakena Yacoobi, founder and president of Afghan Institute of Learning.

She was born in Herat, Afghanistan, and she came to study biology and public health in the USA. She came back to Pakistan refugee camp and then to Afghanistan to help women there. Her idea is to work with the communities, according to their needs, rather than imposing solutions on them. Afgan Institute of Learning provides both education to women, but also health services. AIL grassroot centers serves now 350 000 women and children in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Quotes about her motivation : “When I was a child, I saw the suffering of women in Afghanistan. Every woman who was going to deliver a baby, out of ten women, five of them die, because there wasn't a facility for them. There wasn't doctor. There wasn't medicine.”
“When you educate the woman, you really educate the family, and when you educate the family, you educate the nation”
Quote about her strategy :“We give workshops in leadership and we have men and women sitting side by side,” Yacoobi said. “And when we have a quotation from Koran that says that women are equal to men, and men and women are created by God equally, which religious leader could say anything? They are silent, and they learn. And they change."

I have not managed to reach her so far, but I am trying. (If someone finds her email address, please let me know) I will update this post if I manage to contact her !

To begin to shadow her, I think that I can maybe help her even without contacting her by advertising what she does !

"I love that you've brought this to attention. An extensive database of uncommon but resistant and hardy plants/foods could be developed and organized by climate. Ease of growth and processing should also be taken in to account. I will try to…"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development.The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
