A crash course in changing the world.
It's Earth Day 2020. A lot has changed on planet Earth in the last ten years. Some things for the better, and some for the worse. We've lost some islands due to climate change (http://bit.ly/cj7xw3) and we've had some catastophic storms and droughts, but we've also made huge progress. This year alternative energy will no longer be the alternative because it will surpass fossil fuels as the world's primary source of energy, which is why this year Earth Day feels different than any Earth Day before it. Though everyone recognizes that much work still needs to be done, this Earth Day has a much more celebratory atmosphere.
In my home in Buffalo, NY I am celebrating Earth Day with my family and the three chickens we recently purchased (see my previous blog post for more on the chickens http://bit.ly/adSNIb). As part of our Earth Day ceremony each of my three kids names a chicken, and they choose to name them Earth, Wind, and Fire (very appropriate names for the occasion but odd given the fact that none of them had ever heard of the band http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth,_Wind_&_Fire).
To celebrate Earth Day and the new additions to our family we decide to decorate the new chicken coop with some green Christmas lights and sing Earth Day songs (http://bit.ly/cXBslN). Best of all, we can rest assured knowing that our new decoration isn't adding any carbon dioxide to the atmosphere, because the energy that is coming into our home comes from a nearby offshore windfarm in Lake Erie (http://bit.ly/cWlYci). Happy Earth Day 2020!
