Yes, it is possible! I have been living in New York for a few years and during this time the thought of earthquakes never crossed my mind. You think, living in a big city that your capable of dealing with any natural disaster, that you are untouchable, the same way someone in the titanic may have felt about their big "unsinkable" ship. Though I have come to learn that the bigger you are, the harder you fall.
In the titanic, if it had been a smaller ship more people may have lived, since the main cause was the lack of life boats on the ship, and the huge ego of the creators. New York has billions of people, with a very unsound evacuation system. As Earthquakes begin to strike up all over the world you tend to notice that we are in danger. There are faults all over the new york coast and we are in grave danger. What we will do when all our skyscrapers and "safety nets" we think will protect us crash down on top of our homes and schools? We will be as hopeless as Haiti in 2010.
