I chose to follow Eben Bayer as my hero to shadow. Choosing him as my
hero to shadow follows the theme of my first blog post. Don't fight
culture, change it. His ideas are to target things in culture that no
one really thinks about, or if they do it's a passing moment. We know
its bad but we let it happen. Such as, "this toxic white stuff", or as
majority will know it as, Styrofoam. Styrofoam is everywhere, not just
in packaging, but in our coffee cups, our walls, and many other daily
items. Styrofoam is not recyclable, and we need to start thinking
about other resources and ways to make an object similar to Styrofoam,
but recyclable. That is where Eben Bayer comes in. Him and his team
have come up with a product that isn't just better for the earth and
environment, but can even be composted in your own garden. This
product is made from things like mushroom roots. It is literally grown
into packaging, and because of this can literally be composted in your
own backyard. Already this product is not just better for the
environment, but most likely cheaper, after all what is cheaper than
growing packaging in a dark room where you don't need heat, electricity
or anything of the sort. Going farther than that, it is also cheaper
to recycle it. Nothing is cheaper than being able to toss this into
your compost pile or even just the garden and not having to have it driven to a recycling plant. Eben Bayer is an inspiration, not just for finding an alternative to this toxic white stuff, but because he follows a belief that I am deciding to follow. Don't fight culture, change it, modify it, rearrange it to be healthier for this planet. It's nearly impossible to take someone of something they have already been introduced to, so don't fight an impossible battle to change things, but fix them.
