Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

I have finally chosen to support Afghan Institute of Learning in its mission to educate girls in Afghanistan (see also this post about Dr. Sakena Yacoobi).

Learning to read is a basic knowledge, but to me, this is one of the most important. If you can read, you can learn a lot, you can understand what you sign, you can read newspaper, laws, religious books. And this is the first step to freedom, because you never really think by yourself if you cannot keep yourself informed !

This was an hard choice because there are so much important project to empower women around the world !
Other projects that caught my attention :
- Women In Ecuador Learn Microfinance And IT Skills : one week of a training session a women to learn civic leadership and technology skills. Website of the association : http://www.cdi.org.br/
- Income Generation For 5,000 Poor Ethiopian Women : Provides one month of support to one woman to start up a business selling vegetables : http://www.pathfind.org/
- http://www.medecinsdumonde.org/gb/http://www.medecinsdumonde.org/gb/ : Give free access to very high level medecine and surgery all over the world. There is no possibility to choose to what project specifically you donate. Projects include : prevention and hekping women victims of violence in Algeria, Egypt, France, Guatemala, Haïti, Liberia, Moldavia, Pakistan, RDC, Sudan helping romani in France, rebuilding health system in Haïti...

Choices are always tough, because who ever you choose will benefit while someone else gets left behind. I'm glad you thought long and hard before making your choice.

The great thing about being able to read and write is that you stop being dependent on others to tell you what to do, what is true, what to know. The Taliban (as far as I know) seem to have decided that their version of the truth is the one and only truth, and are hell-bent on preventing anyone from learning to actually read The Koran.

Can I point you in the direction of http://www.acommonword.com/ as well?

Thank you for the link Chris. As I said in my post, I also think that reading is important on the religion subject, because if you can read your religious book (to me, it is valid for all religions) you can really see the message.
If every believer in the world had completely read and think about his religion book, there would definitively be less religion-related violence and extremism.

Good choice - it's always better to make one than to beat yourself up over the neglected chances.

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
