A crash course in changing the world.
Embrace market mechanisms (Giving stuff away rarely works as well as selling it.)
This was my favorite seceret. Having a background in sales and marketing this is very true from experience. I will share what I have learned with you.
All sales processes can be simplified into a few simple steps.Within these steps, you can find the solution to giving stuff away and how to sell better.
1. Meet & Geet the consumer
Meet and greet can be done many ways. It can be face to face or through a commercial. It is the way that a consumer will "meet" you, your company and your product.
2. Land the customer on a product
Landing the customer can also be done through a commerical. Sometimes a customer will land themselves by looking at the packaging, such as a cereal box. Sometimes a customer will need help because they don't know what they need, like when car shopping.
3. Demo the product
The demo process is when the customer tries out the product. With the internet, it is easy to demo products via video. A customer will often accpet watching someone else use the device as a demo. Although, in some industries it is vital to the consumer demo themselves or they won't understand. If you are wanting to sell something as exciting as a rollercoaster, it is more effective to get the person on the coaster than to have them watch someone else use it. A demo really sells the product in ways that you never could on your own. You don't give it away for free, but you still give the consumer the chance to try it out. The demo is the perfect solution to giving things away, yet it is not done as often as it should be in America. I want to see more stores where everything has a demo. Toy stores do a good job of this. They leave out toy tables packed with toys so that your child will blow up crying if you leave and don't buy it. Not a perfect example of how I believe it should be done, but anyone who has a kid will tell you that at some point in time it worked on them.
4. Write up an offer and close
The write up is the negotiation process of the sale. Most Americans buy whatever is labeled on the product. I hate it. It has created a country full of people that don't know how to be creative with thier resources and skills. Those that know how to work a deal will even scare away customers because the customer doesn't know how to react. They become embarrased and worry about being taken advantage of. A deal cannot not happen in this situation. At the end of the day, this evironment is bad for the economy and worse for those that don't know how to make a deal.
