Episode 1
Alive we live in the same house or under the same roof. Dead, we rest in the same tomb.

PANEL A

A view of a street in the city of Jerusalem, in the Old City. In the distance a café can be seen. People are walking down the street.

OFF-PANEL
Man, it’s wonderful to be on vacation and have a few days off. Changing the world sometimes feels like such an uphill battle.

PANEL B
Close-up. A lively popular open-air café in Jerusalem just before sunset. Quinn is seated at a café reading a newspaper. There is a group of businessmen seated at a table next to him. They lean toward each other as if talking in quiet tones. Quinn has earphones in his ears, though he is not listening to music.

QUINN
Plus I’d like to work on my Hebrew.

BUSINESSMAN 1
One says now is the time to strike.

QUINN
Huh?

BUSINESSMAN 2
If Israel continues even another day of resettlements,
The United Front will attack with the help of Iran.

PANEL C
Men still seated at café. Quinn has a pen and paper in hand and pretends to be listening to music.

BUSINESSMAN 1
I will mobilize Hamas to strike in 2 days.

BUSINESSMAN 3
I will work with Hezbollah and Syria and Lebanon. 2 days should be enough.

BUSINESSMAN 2
Yes, tension has been growing. I’ll talk with Iran.

BUSINESSMAN 4
Good I expect to hear from you all by the end of tomorrow to see where we stand.

PANEL D
The men are standing to leave. A dropped piece of paper lies on the floor. Quinn is stooped on the ground to pick it up. The paper has the words Alpha and Korea, DRC, Rwanda, Israel, and Iran on it. The list continues but we cannot read the other names.

BUSINESSMAN 4
Let’s Go.

QUINN
Hey. You dropped your paper

PANEL E
3 Businessmen are farther away. One is back grabbing paper from Quinn.

BUSINESSMAN 4
Thanks.

QUINN
No problem.

BUSINESSMAN 4
Do I know you?

QUINN
I don’t think so.

BUSINESSMAN 4
Thanks, again.

PAGE 2

PANEL A
Quinn running upward to a mount in Jerusalem. The café and street is in the deep background. The Sun is setting.

QUINN
Alchemy. Can you hear me?

OFF-PANEL
Loud and clear. Where are you?

PANEL B
Alchemy behind his screen in Dakar.

OFF-PANEL
I’m in Jerusalem vacationing. You’re never going to believe what I just heard.

ALCHEMY
Well, we’ve got a problem and the network needs you. We have impending conflicts
In Korea, DRC and Rwanda, and ---

PANEL C
Quinn stands on top of the hill overlooking the city

QUINN
Israel. I just over heard a conversation between the instigators.

OFF-PANEL
Who’s behind it?

QUINN
Alpha was the name on the dropped piece of---

PANEL D
Alchemy sits at his computer screens. His hat falls off.

ALCHEMY
ALPHA!!

OFF-PANEL
Boss?

PANEL E
Alchemy recomposes himself, his hand placing his hat back on his head.

ALCHEMY
Quinn. Ember, Eureka, and Cipher are in on this call, too.

OFF-PANEL
And North Korea has just declared war on South Korea.

PANEL F
Ember, Cipher, and Eureka walking in garden outside the UN building in New York.

EUREKA
And, the DRC and Rwanda are about to start fighting again, according to agents in the area.

OFF-PANEL
Quinn, you and Ember work on Rwanda and Israel. Eureka and Cipher, go to Korea.

EMBER, EUREKA, and CIPHER
Got it, Boss!

ALCHEMY
Your job is to build a sustained peace settlement for all three areas, a two-state solution in Israel, voluntary destruction of nuclear weapons in Korea, and reconciliation in central Africa.

PAGE 3

PANEL A
Quinn and Ember arrive in Goma, DRC. The town looks dark and ashy from a volcanic eruption and the destruction of fires and wars.

EMBER
This places looks horrible.

QUINN
I know.

EMBER
Look there’s a kid with a gun over there. He’s crying.

PANEL B
Kid sitting next to a tree with a gun with blood. He’s crying.

EMBER
What’s wrong?

KID 1
My parents are dead. And I miss my family.

QUINN
Where are you from?

KID 1
Rwanda

PANEL C
Ember wipes his wounds with materials from first aid kit sitting beside her. Quinn stands behind her.

EMBER
Where did you get the gun?

KID 1
The rebel fighting group gave it to me. I had to kill or be killed.

QUINN
Where do they get the guns from.

KID 1
Foreigners, people from China, the US, France--places like that.

PANEL D
Eureka and Cipher arrive in the Demilitarized Zone between North and South Korea. They wear camouflage and work on laptops from the bushes. They lay low to the ground and Eureka is looking through binoculars with one hand. Tanks can be seen in the distance.

EUREKA
This is crazy. There are tanks lining up on both sides. What will this accomplish?

CIPHER
I’m not sure, but if this isn’t stopped, we could have a nuclear conflict on our hands.

PANEL E
Now both are working on the computers.

EUREKA
Do they make their own weapons or do they get them from somewhere?

CIPHER
According to research, it seems like a mix. They can produce some weapons but not enough for what they want. So they do buy some materials from other countries.

OFF-PANEL
Any we can speak to?

CIPHER
No, it looks like Iran helps them, and they are not permanent members on the security council.

PANEL F
Alchemy is in front of his computer screens

ALCHEMY
Quinn, I need you to take a trip to Geneva. Work on the security council countries.

OFF-PANEL
Yes sir.

ALCHEMY
Ember and Eureka, you guys work on cutting conventional arms trading on the black market to those countries.

PAGE 4

PANEL A
Quinn stands before a group of men in a large room in Geneva. He is wearing a suit and so are they.

QUINN
Ok, do you at least see how crazy the situation is? We have 3 possible wars about to begin, and 2 could be nuclear wars.

UN FRENCH AMBASSADOR
Yes, we see that. What must we do to stop it.

QUINN
I need you to stop the sale and trade of conventional arms to these countries or countries that deal with them.

PANEL B
Close-up view of Quinn and closest UN security councilmen.

UN AMERICAN AMBASSADOR
But even if we did that, you still have the black market.

QUINN
Don’t worry about the Black market. We have that under control.

UN RUSSIAN AMBASSADOR
How can you say that?

PANEL C
Quinn leans in to the same group of men as if speaking sternly but determinedly.

QUINN
Has the EVOKE Network ever failed you before?

Silence.

QUINN
Since it went public and you found out the work of the EVOKE network before, has it ever failed?
We use community involvement, civic engagement, social entrepreneurship, and global resilient solutions.
Trust us.

PANEL D
Eureka in Seoul in an underground computer hackers club. Wears club outfit with streaks in her hair.

OFF-PANEL
Have you tapped into the cyber-network for black market sales.

EUREKA
Yes, I’m in. With the help of Cipher we were able to hack into it. What are you thinking?

OFF-PANEL
I’m thinking of going big with an E-incentive.

EUREKA
What do you mean.

PANEL F
Ember in Ghanaian formal, traditional dress in Kigali outside of a meeting with the president and Chief Information Officer for the country and various private and civil sector computer and networking experts.

EMBER
Quinn was able to set up a fund with contributions from government. All we have to do is send and Evoke offering money for the weapons that are being sold to Korea, the Middle East, DRC, and Rwanda. We’re working with Interpol to round up these rogue intervals through the sale.

EUREKA
I’m on it!

CIPHER
I’ll set up the transfer protocols!

PANELG
Screen split into 4 with different dark underground rooms with weapons criminals looking at computer screens. The green EVOKE face appears on all them advertising to buy certain weapons for high prices.

PAGE 5

PANEL A
Quinn on plane flying back to Israel, talking on cell phone.

QUINN
Ember, can you handle the situation there in DRC? I’m headed back to Israel to work on the nuclear problem there.

OFF-PANEL
I got it, Quinn. We just need to come up with a negotiation plan. We need a BATNA.

QUINN
What’s that?

PANEL B
Flight Stewardess hands Quinn a glass of water. View down the aisle. The head of the stewardess is cut off.

OFF-PANEL
A BATNA is the Best Alternative to a Negotiated Agreement.

QUINN
Got it. You mean how we want a two-state solution in the Middle east, but the best alternative is a peace agreement and cease-fire in the mean time?

OFF-PANEL
Exactly. I’ll set up a distributed research network to get us up to speed.

PANEL C
Hut in Goma with steam from hot food exiting the top.

PANEL D
Inside hut, we see food and Ember on a laptop.

EMBER
Thank you for the food.

OFF-PANEL
No problem.

EMBER
I’m going to have the network do the research, summarize it so that hundreds of hours of research on history and sociology for us is cut down to 3 hours.

PANEL E
EVOKE face on computer screens around the world asking for research help. Split screen with various scenes around the world.

PANEL G
Back in hut with Ember. She’s speaking with Cipher, Eureka, Quinn and Alchemy.

EMBER
Ok, everyone. I’m sending the quick summaries of what North and South Korea want and a brief history, what DRC and Rwanda want and their history, and the situation in the middle east.

OFF-PANEL
Great work Ember. And good job team on stopping the flow of conventional weapons. The killings have dropped in the last few days.

EMBER
Thanks, Boss! But now we need to come up with a BATNA.

OFF-PANEL
Get to work.

PANEL H
3 hours later. 4 vertical-split panels with Alchemy in Dakar, Ember in Goma, Quinn in Jerusalem, and Eureka and Cipher on the border.

CIPHER
Ok, we want North Korea to destroy their nuclear weapons, but our BATNA is a ceasefire before fighting begins.

EMBER
My goal is reconciliation between all tribes which is a long process. The BATNA is to get a ceasefire and the surrender of Joseph Kony and other child soldier abusers.

QUINN
We want a two-state solution, but a ceasefire is the BATNA.
In some ways we all need reconciliation in all 3 areas.

ALCHEMY
Get to work.

PAGE 6
Working Scene.

PANEL A
EMBER meeting with government of Rwanda, government officials of Uganda, and government officials from DRC.

EMBER
And this is why we need to a government with representation from all ethnicities. . .

PANEL B
EMBER, very tired and hair a bit frazzled. It’s late night, and she’s in a similar meeting, but now there are military leaders there.

EMBER
What we need is a new constitution like Kenya wrote in 2010. . .

PANEL C
Quinn is in a meeting with 2 other negotiators and the Israeli prime minister, the President of Iran, and the leaders of Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, and Palestine.

QUINN
(THOUGHT: This is multilateral diplomacy at its best.)
Gentlemen, if we don’t compromise we will have nothing left for our children. . . .

PANEL D
Shouts, uproar - from all the men. Quinn looks frustrated.

PANEL E
Various houses in South And North Korea receive pictures of Korean children in the other half of the country and their names and ages and families. Each sheet of paper says EVOKE.

PANEL F
The same papers are seen floating to the ground above the soldiers on the border.

PANEL G (Split Panel)
Cipher talks amongst the military leaders in North Korea and those in South Korea are talking with Eureka. Both look tired and frustrated.

PAGE 7

PANEL A
News Broadcast. TV takes up most of the panel.

BROADCASTER
North Korea has declared war on South Korea, but for the first time in history, military leaders refuse to carry out. The Evoke network somehow has changed the mindset of the military though they government still decided to head to war. So war was declared but war was avoided.

PANEL B
Far shot of TV. We can see the team sitting around the TV. They are in Jerusalem. They are happy and joyful with arms raised. Cipher hi-fives Quinn and Eureka hugs Ember.

BROADCASTER
Ceasefires have been declared in both DRC and Rwanda and in Israel and Palestine. Still no two-state solution in sight, but the process is moving forward. In Rwanda, Uganda, Burundi, and DRC, the EVOKE network was able to set up a government sponsored program of mixed representation in the government from all ethnicities just like the Zambian model from history.

PANEL C
The group holds hand in a line listening to the broadcast

BROADCASTER
So an ethnic representative will govern over an area with people from a different ethnicity. Mixed marriages are being encouraged and promoted and two new reconciliation centers have been set up in the region for ongoing peace efforts.

EUREKA
Well, it’s not our goal, but we’re slowly getting there.

QUINN
Yes, the BATNAs were a great idea. Knowing how we felt on each issue was crucial. The EVOKE network was amazing!!

EMBER
There’s still something unsettling. It’s like we’re dealing with symptoms.

OFF-PANEL
Ember is right. We have not yet dealt with the roots of conflict -- destroying the sale and trade of conventional weapons, nuclear disarmament, ethnic tribalism and racism--these are still symptoms. But ultimately the human condition is what we need to work on. We have a hard time forgiving.

PANEL D
Alchemy looking out through a window, deep in thought.

ALCHEMY
Nuclear 0-Day is 3 years away. Let’s hope the last remaining nuclear powers give up their weapons.
But let’s hope we continue to work on the human condition that continues to embroil itself in conflict.

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
