The first online not-for-profit global lottery dedicated to sustainability
Imagine a lottery whose fundamental purpose is not to "make money" but to give back to society.
How many of them do you know?
Imagine a lottery that will allow people from all over the world to play and win.
How big do you think the jackpots will be?
Imagine a lottery that uses its profits to fund sustainability projects and where nobody loses.
Didn't your mother teach you not to daydream?
Win the Planet is an initiative created for the funding, building and promoting of the first online not-for-profit global lottery dedicated to sustainability.
Here is what makes us unique:
- our objective is to make a positive contribution to the global efforts to change the current direction our planet is going in (from a sustainability point of view).
- we are aiming at the global market place
- the lottery tickets will be sold online
- the draws will be done with a RNG (random number generator) using atmospheric noise to pick the winning numbers
- being the first global lottery, the jackpots will be impressively big, so the motivation to play is not only a social/environmental one
- the majority of our profits (80%) will be invested in sustainability projects while the remaining 20% will be invested in the future development of the lottery
- every purchase of a ticket in the lottery grants the buyer the right to vote for his favorite project
- nobody loses as no matter if you win or not, a project that helps society will get funded
And here is a visual overview of the concept
What are we trying to achieve? To implement a business model that most of the people just talk about these days. A business that is run in a sustainable way, involving all its stakeholders and with the objective of giving back to society. The age of corporations created for mindless profit-making and the constant hoarding of money must come to an end.
Why are we doing this? Because there are countless entrepreneurs and organizations out there creating and implementing projects that make all our lives more sustainable. They need funding, and in most of the cases it is very hard for them to invest time and energy into fundraising.
Here is where we want to help. Through wintheplanet.com they will be able to present their project to a huge audience and get a real chance to get the money and the exposure they need.
How will it work? Once we have the legal entity set-up, we will start making partnership with world-renowned global organizations that are doing sustainability projects across the world (eg. Ashoka, WWF, Unicef, Greenpeace, etc). With their help, we will select projects and initiatives that will participate in the draws and which will be voted by the players.
Tickets will be sold online and every 2 weeks we will have a draw. After the winner is chosen and the jackpot is won, Win the Planet will use 80% of the profits from that draw to fund the projects proportionately to the number of votes they received, under the supervision of their parent organizations.
As a special mention, Win the Planet will be audited by one of the big 4 on a constant basis as well as by independent groups, all to make sure that we offer full transparency.
What do we need to make it a reality?
We would be thankful for any recommendations/help in finding angel investors willing to help us through the star-up phase.
At the same time, we welcome and help on web design, software development, spreading the word as well as any contributions/donations.
What if we are selected as one of the winning Evokations?
As the World Bank has already mentioned their approval of a global lottery focused on development (read more here and here), we would appreciate the opportunity to take part in the summit in Washington DC.
There I will hopefully engage in discussions with the World Bank representatives on their availability to offer support and endorsement for Win the Planet.
We would also highly appreciate any help coming from the distinguished mentors, especially of Nicolas Gorjestani and Praful Patel on the development side (maybe also for a potential partnership with the World Bank) and of Paul Gabie on the financial/start-up capital side.
Thank you for reading this and fell free to share with us your feedback and ideas.
