Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

Evoke is not working. I fear we have caught the wrong train(Everyone read)

So far on evoke, We have managed to change a few little things here and there...
We all have learnt a lot. We have had some excellent ideas.
But have we really done anything, that has actually changed lives, on a large scale?
I am talking of projects like Wintermute's OperationSEED, Radhika's People's World Bank and EVOKE@Kiva which aim to do so.

We talk of very few players joining evoke. I believe, it is because we have not done anything to deserve their attention yet.
We have not brought about radical change, something big enough to create a huge impact on people's lives and to get noticed, so that the people are inspired to join to contribute, and not just because of the illusion that Evoke is a 'cool game'.

Now, thanks to some unknown person's mistake, we have lost A.V Koshy, one of our top agents. His "Evoke literature project", one of the finer projects on the site, aiming at actual action, will remain a dream, as will his hopes and aspirations for this site....
And this had led to people giving up hope, and talking of leaving. I fear we might lose a chain of good agents.

Most problems arise from conformity of the people on this site...
I am talking about players who have a great idea, and think an unknown person will read their blog and try it for them....so it's just post and forget....or they make up cool sounding ideas, that they know will never work, just to get people to notice them/get power votes....

In this site of over 16,000 people we have only 30-40 agents dedicated to ACTUAL CHANGE. These people are the backbone of this site. We need to protect these people. If we fail to do so, Evoke will really become an EPIC FAIL.

If by the Evokation after may 12, we fail to implement one Large Scale idea, which would radically change people's lives, I fear we wont be different from the millions of people around us, who only 'talk' of change....and evoke will remain 'just a game'.

I am new to this site, and I am ignorant of it's finer workings, please feel free to criticize me, if you feel I have made a mistake.

Having said that, I'll catch some sleep. Its about to be 3am..

'Help if you can. If you can not, fold your hands and stand by and see things go on. Do not injure, if you can not render help'.

Do we need to be many (how many?) to make an impact? If something does not happen within 12 weeks does it mean it will never happen? This is one truth I have learnt from one woman who made a difference - The success of love is in the loving - it is not in the result of loving. Of course it is natural in love to want the best for the other person, but whether it turns out that way or not does not determine the value of what we have done. Mother Teresa

I commend you Samiran on igniting a provocative discussion. Every post on the entire Evoke network is a similar opportunity for dialogue.

There are so many forces at work here, it is hard to separate them. There are each individual's goals for playing this game and/or not viewing this as a game but as a social networking/activist forum. There is the instructional design and hidden curriculum within the game which helps players learn knowledge, gain motivation and possibly induce behavioral change. There is theory about how produce a social movement. There is theory about how people interact and self organize online. And there are many many many more dimensions at play.

Every person who hears or speaks the word 'Evoke' is now a part of this phenomenon regardless of how many powers they earn, how many ruins they collect, how many missions or how many posts the complete. They are all now contributors to not only an outcome, but a process. And in that, they are all very valuable.

Not to be trite, but, a small group of dedicated individuals is more than capable of changing the world. And, if people can 'be the change they wish to see' even if all they do is change one aspect of their day to day life this week or this year, they will have created a lasting impact and their own epic win.

You sound like a very passionate person. I hope you are back feeling energized and hopeful soon!

"I love that you've brought this to attention. An extensive database of uncommon but resistant and hardy plants/foods could be developed and organized by climate. Ease of growth and processing should also be taken in to account. I will try to…"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
