Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

I have been hearing a lot of complaints about SPAM in the mailing system.

I strive to make everything I do on here personal. I really do take time to look at everyone's submissions and give them feed back if they send me a personal message requesting it. It may take some time, but I always have times where I don't have messages to check anymore. I don't require people to look at my submissions either, if they want to follow me or not it is up to them.

I just simply want everyone to feel their voice is important not only to me but to everyone.
99% of the messages I get I leave a comment and power points.

I beleive "spam" is male enhancement and getting my taxes lowered. Not people with submissions they just wish to have feedback on.

Yes it takes time to see all the submissions, but it's up to you to look through them all or not. Just like it was your choice to join the website.

Nobody is asking you to look at every submission that someone sends a huge message to everyone on their friends list.

I am not being a jerk, and sorry if it seems like I am coming off like it. But everyone logs on at different times of the day and night because of time zones. So some people won't see when you post something in the news feed.

Like I said, I treat the message system like my own personal e-mail.
If I already looked at a lot of submissions from them recently I simply delete it. Now if I opened my inbox and had more than 50 then I would say something. Other than that I will continue to take 10 mins to filter through them.

PLEASE NOTICE: I am not talking about PERSONAL EMAIL NOTIFICATIONS. I am talking about people complaining about the WEBSITES's inbox system. I am not the one complaining. This is for the people complaining to me about it.

I got to admit that I am one of those who have complained about the 'spam' (well, call it what you want :))

I understand that some people enjoy it, and me also I really sometimes do check out the articles that the people are advertising, but I don't like the gut feeling. I dont like that people feel the need to advertise EVERY post they make (like some do). It feels like spam to me. I know others may disagree with that, and that's fine.

I wouldn't mind it so much if people for instance sent a message once every few days, with links to their blog entries from the last days, and also linked to other blogs that they liked. Then offer context, not only to their own blogs but also those of others. Then the message doesnt just become self-serving, but also opens up for exploring the work of others.

5/5 could be an idea - pick 5 blog posts/pictures/video you feel your friends might enjoy, and where perhaps not many of them have commented yet. In the message, you could write a bit about your thought process after posting it, watching reactions. Then you pick 5 blog posts made by Other people, maybe 5 different people. Add a comment to each one.

I would actually be very happy about receiving such messages, as opposed to now when I often feel the "..." when I receive an email about a message and then I realize that its just another friend who talks about his/her latest blog post. Not much context, not much added value, just the link and something like "i just made this, please check it out and comment" :P

what do you guys think? could 5/5 be interesting?

Yea there could be a limit per day or something. If you have something personal you can moderate your comments and chat on there. The only time I send a message really is when I am posting something about posting a new video to my video log SERIES for those who watch and follow along so they don't get an episode behind or something.

I am not understanding this spam issue? Are we being emailed everytime someone comments or in our friends lists posts?

I linked my Evoke account to a email address that I admit I do not check more than a few times a week....

I suppose the only spam I am complaining about at the moment are some who seem to have serious spelling issues...I am trying to be tolerant because I know many do not have English as their main language but its making my eyes bleed. :D

But really the only way I am seeing updates is from that little column there on the right with all the news that is happening on the Evoke site. I will be going to that email address now and checking it and adding in a Evoke Filter so that the "Spam" is unseen such as I did with Facebook stuff.

hehe Jake this isnt about You, no need to feel defensive ;) it's about IT, the action, and well - a lot of people are doing it. i dont go around holding grudges to anyone even if i feel they post a lot of mass-mails. heck, i might even do it myself when I feel it is necessary.

oh, and I dont think there should be a Technical limit or something like that. but since this site is so new, I do think we should think about what habits we encourage, and what we discourage. for me, adding more context when you send an email reminder (added value) to all the friends, that would be a cool thing.

but again, people have different perspectives, and that's fine :)

Ha lol. No we are talking about the EVOKE mailing system. I have had people complain about spamming in messages to check out their new posts. I do think there is a "TINY" problem but not enough to raise a thing about it. Even so, we are all here VOLUNTARILY and you can't complain about something you are volunteering for. It's one of the rules of volunteerism. Secondly, I think solving the worlds issues is more important that solving this "spam."

I do not think anyone is attacking me personally and I don't take offense to anything. That's just my character. I just would like some people to change the focus of the mailing system. It's WHY we are here that's important and HOW we will work together.

I've got 44 messages in my inbox waiting for me, and 17 friend requests - all because I've been busy at work and in the house for the last couple of days and haven't been able to catch up with them - and having 40 or so messages waiting for me is quite intimidating.
Saying you can't complain because you're here voluntarily isn't a solution to the problem - if there are people who do get overwhelmed with no way to deal with the numbers of emails, they'll just leave - and that's not good for saving the world.
I've not complained to anyone, but I have gone through my settings and disabled all 'following' on all the threads I comment on, and removed emails for various other reasons. I think the thing I find unfortunate is if I am on someone's friends list, they have 400 friends, and then start a 400 person strong message conversation - there's no way for me to opt out of that discussion, unless I block each person - and that's overkill!

Well that's why I was saying it takes some time to go through but you can easily tell if it is meant for you or not. I was not offering a solution to the problem. It was a blog that's primarily a statement. I know it is hard to fit time in. I would like to make another video blog tonight but I don't think I will be able to because I have plans. I was just tired of replying the same message to people who were complaining to me about it, I am not an Admin, and I don't know why people think that either. I know it's ironic that it seems I am complaining about people complaining. I am just posting my opinion on the EVOKE message system. Not the personal e-mail notifications. I woke up yesterday to 76 e-mail notifications. If there would be a solution I would say NOT to automatically have it sign us up for notifications on blogs.

just wondering - what is it on this page that you are missing, Jake? I dont have a problem with the messaging system as such, myself.

oh, and in gmail i have all emails from mail@urgentevoke.com go into a certain folder and skip the inbox.

I will post that link at the bottom of my blog, thanks Raymond.

I also have created a certain folder for my EVOKE notifications. Makes it a ton easier.

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
