Loan News

So far we have made 19 loans and loaned $550 to small businesses and individuals from Cambodia to Afghanistan! Twelve of these have now been fully-funded. At this point I must mention our powerhouse agent Peggie Scott in Liberia who has so far made nine loans for our team and is unfortunately currently ill. Get well soon!

These are just some of the loans we have made as a team!

Peggie loaned to the Plumbkor Community Group in Monrovia, Liberia, who will use the loan to buy wooden planks for the team leader Momo's small timber business. Alberto chose to champion the arts with his loan to Mame Diarra Samb in Senegal, who requested this loan to buy art for her stall.

PJE decided to make a loan to the Restaurant 315 Group in Afghanistan to buy sewing materials for their tailoring business, and Nann Roeurng's Group from Cambodia will receive a loan from Richard towards buying a cow and piglets. ninmah chose to make a loan to Soukeye Ndiaye from Senegal, who will use the loan to buy fruit and equipment for her fruit juice stall (see blog round-up!).

Elastika made a loan to Jesús Julián García Gutiérrez in Guatemala to purchase a computer to use in his job as a teacher. Both Peggie and Cynawynn chose the Ebenezer #3 Group in Liberia to buy apples for team leader Standly Warjolo's fruit stall (see blog round-up!).

Sarah's loan went to Leng Ran in Cambodia to buy raw materials to make cement jars for sale, and Pamela Awino Ahambo from Kenya received a loan from Kath to increase stock for her clothing boutique.

Blog Round-up

Our agents have been busy doc**enting their work on Kiva!

Floatstone has been trying to make direct contact with the local teams in the countries our entrepreneurs are from, as part of the Dragon Search, and encouraging more agents to join.

Elastika had a tax return and decided to loan it to four entrepreneurs in Nicaragua, Kenya, Rwanda and Nigeria.

ninmah joined our team and made her first loan to Soukeye Ndiaye, a fruit juice seller in Senegal.

Cynawynn decided to donate for the first time on Kiva for the ACT5 mission.

Mike wrote about his recent donation to Prossy Namutebi Guzibwa in Uganda (see below!).

Please write about your experiences and loans on Kiva! Tag them with "EVOKE@Kiva" and I will feature your blog post in the next newsletter :)
Featured Loans

Our featured loans this week were chosen by our team members. These still need to be fully-funded so please loan to these if you are trying to choose among the thousands of entrepreneurs on Kiva :)

Prossy Namutebi Guzibwa from Uganda is requesting a loan to buy stock for her retail business. (requested by Mike)

The Black Survivals Group in Liberia requests a loan to buy goods to grow its leader Saidu Sesay's business into a general store. The Perry Unity Group, also in Liberia, is requesting a similar loan to buy stock for Boimah Perry's retail business. (both requested by Peggie)

Abraham Brown in Monrovia, Liberia has requested a loan to buy phone charge cards to sell in his growing business. (requested by Peggie)
Alassane Wane in Senegal is requesting a loan to repair one of his two taxis. (requested by Peggie)

Hi Sarah, I've wondered, too, what kind of questions I might ask. I just don't know if he would welcome the idea that a private transaction (a business loan) was quite so public and open for discussion. Putting myself in his place, I don't know if I would.

You're right, Peggie. He might find it embarrassing or an intrusion. What about looking up the sponsoring agency? That way it might be possible to ask some more general questions, not focused on a particular person or loan.

Thank you all for your comments :)

@Samiran: Thank you!!!! Duly noted :)

@Peggie & Sarah: I agree with this, though it's a loan it may fall foul of pride. I would imagine it's easier to borrow from someone who you will never meet. I don't think he would be expecting one of his lenders to live so close.

Riko, you Kiva addict, nice work :)

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
