Excessive logging in the Pacific
For this week, I decided to talk about a region I know well for I've visitied it few times: Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.
In those small countries, locals have taken care of the land forever, but then the chineese arrived, bought the land from the locals for a ridiculously low price, and started massive logging. China being the biggest wood importer for the next 20 years at least, it seems logical to invest in other countries. That way, they go to other countries, then send the wood "back home".
Fortunatly, Vanuatu managed to put an end to that practice by passing propper laws. Nowaday, only Ni-vans (locals) can enter that industry and at small scale only. As Vanuatu doesn't accept dual citizenship, it fixed the problem.
On the other hand, Solo's government has not done the same and this is a huge mistake. But we have to understand them. China pays them A LOT (individually to parliament members) to do NOT recongnize Taiwan as a country, therefore, deputees stay quiet and wait while the country is getting RAPED, ABUSED and OVEREXPLOITED.
So that incredible country (Rennell Island is known world wide for birds observation and is classified in the UNESCO: http://www.unesco.org/new/en/unesco/worldwide/unesco-regions/asia-a...) is being spoiled. Locals, unlike foreigners (wether it be chineese or anyone else - this is not a racist blog), know how to use the forest. They use chainsaws, not bulldozers. Not because they could not afford them, some could, but they UNDERSTAND how the forest and the land are important, they hold a precious link with the nature and they are aware that everything is interdependant.

The meal
It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal.
