My Idea!!!
FarmVille, which if you haven't heard of because you were stuck in a cave for the last 2 years, is a Facebook application game!
Over 20% of all Facebook users have played this game, and that equals to be 1% of the wh*** world! I say that this is a great opportunity to cause a stir in the FarmVille world and get some viral attention to future food crisis.
My idea is to suddenly cause a drought in the game. Players will be allowed to plant crops as normal, but they continue to die from a drought. Players would see an immediate loss in funds (which Farmville will need to reimburse because some people pay for their money). Of course, FarmVille wouldn't tell them they are getting their money back right away. In fact, FarmVille will release a PR statement saying that a global drought has cause major issues in the FarmVille world and they have no idea how to fix it.
Next, FarmVille will allow a certain amount of crops to be grown, but only if taken care of in an extra special way than previously done. This will force the community to grow only certain crops, and be stuck only making a certain amount of cash.
Next, items that FarmvVille players buy to decorate start to disappear! FarmVille will release another statement that these item are no longer available because of the major economic crisis caused by lack of food.
Last, Farmville will slowly release innovated items for purchase that will allow players to make food again. Things such as as house that grows food on the porch, and advanced harvesting tools. Huge cash bonuses will be given to those that share food with friends in the game as well.
Once all is said and done, players that played through the game will continue to get bonuses from the limited special technology.
Good idea? Bad idea? Tell me your thoughts? I'm such a believer in allowing games to educate and solve problems in the world. I hope you can see it too.
