Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

Nicholas Nagao's Favorite Blogs

This is where I will be posting blogs that I find interesting, in an effort to help blogs that I find valuable find their way to more people. I encourage everyone to do the same and use the tag FAVORITE in their title so that we can all browse people's favorites easily (kind of like Digg for Evoke). I'm also going to post a link to this blog in my profile so that it can become a standard part of browsing a profile if other users decide to use this convention as well.

Note: Our efforts are working, look what got posted today from Evoke!

An inspiring blog about what a teacher sees in the leaders of tomorrow

Favorite Bloggers By Region
This is a new section I'm adding after realizing the benefit of organizing articles by country, which I learned from Gene's treasure hunt blog here

http://www.urgentevoke.com/forum/topics/challenge-evoke-treasure-hunt

Koshy later emailed me with his favorite blogger FROM Africa, which made me realize I could take Gene's idea one step further, because an article written ABOUT Africa has a different value than a blog written IN Africa. So here is my start based on Koshy's suggestions:

Africa

shakwei - From Kenya, this is the first post I read of hers, and I am hooked. It's so much more interesting for me to hear it from someone that is there and then I can relate to in some of her other posts which make me forget where she is.
Growing Energy Blog

Linda Holt's Africa Blogs - A great list of blogs Linda has compiled with a nice description of each to help you browse.

Suggested agents from Africa I haven't gotten to lookup yet:

mbindiyo
szosi javie
iyamuremya jean dieu

India
av koshy - From India, one of the people I've spoken to the most on Evoke since joining. I don't agree with everything he has to say ;), but that's partly why I like talking to him so much. Talking to someone from a completely different part of the world has helped open my eyes to a lot of things. Here's one of the blogs that helped me get some context of what it's like to live in India

http://www.urgentevoke.com/profiles/blogs/act-4

Suggested agents from India I haven't gotten to lookup yet:
t j roshan
rahul dewanjee
pradip dey

United Kingdom
radhika darbari - Koshy almost tricked me into putting you in the India section...glad I looked carefullly :p

Description: A unique approach at solving the water crisis in regions with oppressive governments. Watch the videos and read the insightful comments because it's a bit of what I'd call "influence" rather than "interfere" angle which is not obvious at first. Nice idea! I also proposed the challenge (In the Challenge the Network discussion) of posting about "hidden gems" of evidence that an agent has posted that is especially rare and creatively unique but not at all popular yet, using the tag GEM. I've already done one of those. And I'll probably do a Favorite list as well. Thanks for the suggestion!

I like the idea, and thanks for the shout out, Nicholas :-) I was thinking, wouldn't it be nice to be able to see "posts that link to this one" when you're looking at a blog or forum post? I haven't found a good way to surface that information, and I think it would be helpful. I'll add a post like yours to my blog, too. +1 Spark!

Turil, I like your GEM idea too. I'll look for that post.

Panamericana, sorry, but I'm not sure why you would have all these "friends" on here if there is no additional value on the site. As the site stands now, there is no way to keep up with friends easily. In Facebook, the updates your friends make are easy to follow. I'm trying to improve the visibility of what my friends are doing, and sharing what I'm doing with my friends. I apologize if it's causing an issue for you, and I'd be happy to try to work out a solution to both if you post what the problem is :)

Cool Idea Nicholas, I'll try to come up with a few blogs that have inspired me.

Pan, it's not meant to be a list of your favorites. Why don't you send Nicholas a list you do like?
Comment by Nicholas Nagao on March 25, 2010 at 5:32pm
Panamericana, please send me your favorites, and make your own list as well. I'll link to your list if you send it to me! That goes for EVERYONE!

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal. I walk to the fridge and open it to see what there is for me to eat. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
