Hello everyone. I'm here to share the results of a program that I recently discovered that was run by the state of Florida. It involved several state agencies and private companies working together to help improve food security among several at risk sectors of the population. It was a 5 year program that ran from 2000-2005 who's results are available in a convenient and easy to read presentation online (
www.flimpact.org/publications/2004/2004-HungerInFlorida.pdf).
I'm sharing this with everyone for a few reasons, a few of which I'll share with my evoke people. =] First, I was honestly surprised that my home state was on the ball enough to have developed and executed a plan of action to help improve food security. As someone who lives here, I can tell you that they way in which the state of Florida handles road construction alone is enough to give you reason to question the collective cognitive abilities of the lawmakers in Tallahassee. Additionally, while reading about the actions taken by my state I am made hopeful for the future but the steps taken were by no means perfect. It is my hope that we can continue to make progress towards ensuring food security for all residents while simultaneously improving areas we could stand to work on.
Perhaps I will track down my local state representative and ask him or her what the state is currently doing to ensure proper food security today and in the future. I'll post another blog should anything come of that course of action, if not, I'm quite certain you will all be hearing from me again soon on another topic!
one love
-mike
