A crash course in changing the world.
I found a compelling article in Woman Watch which explains the issue of gender violence in Somalia and how the locals and other organizations are trying their best to stop it. Unfortunately, the article had an example of how a woman by the name of Safia was threatened, held captive, and raped for two weeks. This is just a signal example of the horrible issue of gender violence. The United Nations Development Programme and the UNFPA have created institutions and are working with local volunteers to stop or prevent this violence in Somalia. It sounds difficult, but a good first step.
