One crisis my hometown could face is flood. The town itself is build on the riverbank of Moldova river, and not far from there there is a confluence of Moldova and Siret rivers. Althouth the town is situated on a sort of hill, it has been one of the inhabitants' fears for centuries. Nothing major happened, except some years ago, when a bridge over Moldova river, making a direct connection with the next town was destroyed (pillars couldn't resist under the water pressure during spring-summer, when Moldova had a bigger flux of water coming from all the afluents from the north, after a period of heavy rain. This, comassed with the fact that in the northern regions have been massive clearings of trees in the forests, so water couldn't be naturally handled that well, like until now). However, that bridge usage could be avoided, as others were functional. Nonetheless, it was the largest bridge in the vecinity of Roman (200 meters from the bridge there are blocks of flats already).
In a case such as flood, a platform like Ushahidi would be perfect because everything else should have failed. television, radio and so on. The chances are that more people could use Ushahidi than the designated group that handles television and radio could, in the eventuality that the stations are still functional.
The data to be sent would first require an a****sment of the current situation. It's no use asking for immediate help if I don't know how immediate help should look like. Obviously, material goods were damaged. In a crisis situation that's the least to worry about, as human resources are more important. How many people were wounded, how many people died, if so, how many people can be gathered in a dedicated group. Anything relating to the current status should be communicated as soon as possible.
