A crash course in changing the world.
In Germany we often have to fight against one likely natural disaster: flooding. Germany both has a seaside and many rivers across the country. Especially in spring, water level rises in the rivers through snowmelt. Moreover in summer, intense rain increases the water level, too. Shipping has to be ceased and partially wide areas are flooded. Because of the site density many inhabited areas are affected by this. Although endangered areas built protective measures like dams and water protection gates, the flooding often brings about much damage.

By using Ushahidi I would track the following kinds of data:
To realize this, different kinds of urgent information and resources are needed to collect. Affected flooding areas already own measuring systems to get actual water level. It can be used easily with Ushahidi by modifying some interfaces. The other information has to be collected by people which are located in the areas. Technical emergency service and rescue forces could send status of protections, maintenance and people.
Current water levels are already displayed on http://www.hochwasserzentralen.de/
When I took the screenshot above - as you can see - everything was ok, no flooding at this time.
