Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

I've very lucky to live where I do. We haven't had scarcity or famine in years, but if we keep up at our current rate we will. The problem comes from the amount of meat we consume. Apparently, you could feed 100 times more people with the grain we feed a cow for one person to eat. That means the space we have alloted for each cow (and it's food) is about 100 times more than we need for the same amount of grain. Unfortunately, we don't have unlimited space and our population is growing. Globally it makes much more sense for us to cut down on the amount of meat we eat to enable those with less food more opportunity, especially if our population continues to grow at such a rate.

We also rely quite heavily on the use of factory farms here. Factory farms are not only cruel to animals, they also are a source of pollution and a drain on our clean water supply.

I can't find Canadian statistics so here are some from the US, showing there is also a problem with the amount of concentrated excrement on the ecosystem:

Production of excrement by total US
human population: 12,000 pounds/second

Production of excrement by US
livestock: 250,000 pounds/second

Water needed to produce 1 pound of
wheat: 25 gallons

Water needed to produce 1 pound of
meat: 2,500 gallons

I got these statistics from this website:

I'm not a vegetarian, but I'm cutting down on the amount of meat I consume. I eat mostly white meat and tofurkey now. It's hard to cut out completely, so any tips or advice would be appreciated!

There's a doc**entary, narrated by Joaquin Phoenix, which is titled "Earthlings." It's primarily about our economic dependence on animals raised as pets, food, clothing, etc. Highly recommend it. I was already a vegetarian when I saw it, and I don't think you should make any kind of major life-change like that based on one film, but it will give you something new to think about. It isn't rated, and it isn't for the faint of heart, however.

As for cutting back on (if not cutting out) meats - my suggestion is to do a little bit of reading. The internet is a wonderful resource for this sort of thing. Things you specifically need to look for are: "Where will you get the nutrients you weren't getting from consuming meat?" "How much of those nutrients do you actually need?" "How much Protein do you really need?" And things like this.

As a Vegetarian, I have to put a little more thought into what I am going to eat each day (I'm actually a vegan, so I eat quite a lot just to get the calories I need to fuel my day-to-day activities and exercise). Boca makes some pretty good veggie patties for non-vegans, and I recommend embracing a wide array of fruits and vegetables. I should've made this a blog post - I've written you a novel here. I'll let it go.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to drop me a line.

Thanks for the info David. I haven't heard of that doc**entary, but I will check it out asap. As far as cutting out meat completely, I think I'll be ready soon, so I appreciate the advice. I'm not sure what I think about eventually going vegan. I've already cut out milk, but from time to time I eat cheese, and I don't think I'll ever stop eating eggs... or ice cream.

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
