A crash course in changing the world.
I learned that global warming is changing the production of food. The extreme temperatures can have an effect on the amount of food farmers can produce. By 2100, there could be food shortages because of the change in global climate. It could seriously alter food crops in the tropics and subtropics in the coming years. Inventors should start to develop ways for crops that can withstand harsher hot temperatures. This can lead to greater food insecurity in some of the poorest part of the world including Africa and Central America. In the future weather could cut crop growth of maize and rice. There are 3 billion people that live in the tropics and subtropics and most of the live on $2 or less per day. Most people in these regions depend on farming for their livelihood.
Food insecurity affects many countries including the United States. Food insecurity can stunt growth and create chronic deficiencies. In 1996, the World Summit on Food Security was held to discuss global problems of lack of food resources and widespread malnutrition. They set up a plan to decrease the amount of malnourished people by 50%. Another Summit was held in 2009. The main problems facing food security is availability, access, utilization, and stability.Food security will continue to be a problem without help from other people.
