Study of the limitations of the past, especially the study of sieges, offers suggestions for real, nurishing food in areas where famine is a real world problem today.
My first course, arguably my starter therefore, would be three fried locusts. Wherever they appear in the world locusts always imply famine to follow, but deep fried they are a tasty land based alternative to prawns and when they land they can be captured, in sacks, in very large numbers and will feed starving people for many days.
My main course would be 'green cake'. This is made from the floating mats of weed and especially papyrus which float down the Nile from the highlands of Sudan during and immediately after the floods. The mats are squeezed, crushed and then dried in the sun, after which they can feed staving people for many weeks.
My dessert is water, pure boiled sweet water - a lifesaver and soooo unde-rrated
And who would I invite to share this with me, the President of France and his wife to start to teach his people to live more healthily and share their excesses with some people in Algeria, Cambodia or other areas where famine is rife and their history implies help should be offered.
