OK, I've been guilty this bank holiday weekend of not eating that healthily, but I have massively improved my own approach to food since getting Jamie Oliver's 'Ministry of Food' book a couple of years ago. It gave me the confidence to cook, and I have not looked back. Many of the meals are quite quick to prepare, and I now pick fresh foods as opposed to the majority of my food being supermarket pre-packaged stuff. To take some action this week, I'm going to buy a copy of his book and send it to a friend of mine who really doesn't cook very much. He lives less than a mile from me so he's pretty local. He also doesn't have great cooking facilities- just a couple of gas rings, and, as of this week, a microwave oven. However, with my help, I hope to get him cooking a little more- and to re-spark my own interest in cooking. I'll let you know how it goes.
There's also a great Jamie Oliver I-phone app. I've changed my status on Evoke to urge everyone to do a bit of home cooking, and hopefully that's a start. It's not huge, but it's a beginning.
In the meantime, does anyone have any advice on herbs/ veg that I can grow in a window box in my London flat at this time of year? I don't have a garden, but if there's something low maintenance I can grow, I'd love to get involved. Please post suggestions below..
