A crash course in changing the world.
#Hey,
I live in Lower Saxony and have to admit that "food security" is difficult to perceive in Central Europe.
But there are clues pointing to the fact that we have to pay attention to our food.
First, every seventh child goes to school hungry. Why? - Is it showing signs of starvation in Germany?
Well.. No. However, I would like to invite you to look into the future. There are over 900 "Tafeln" (you can get food for free) nationwide and the number of families who depend on increase. Just why - Are food products to expensive?
I think wastage and losses lead to food shortages.
A report (2011) by the United Nations and the "Böll Stiftung" shows that one third of the world's food spoils or ends up in the garbage. So that currently the world's one billion people go hungry is not primarily a problem of agricultural productivity, but rather a question of consumer behavior of people.
What's the cause .. mass production, hunger for fuel and globalization?! I don't know.
But check out your supermarket. Buy local food brands, start conscious shopping and do you really need exotic fruits in winter..
so let's get to the point ..
In developing countries there is a problem especially in poor harvesting techniques, poor logistics, lack of necessary infrastructure and inadequate processing and lack of market information.
it's is okay to donate food to africa, but please think a little further.
What they really need isn't food, they need information, knowledge and education. It don't stop hunger, but helps getting independent.
