I've been looking into the food security of the UK to see how well we are really doing; the UK doesn't seem to be a place we think of as somewhere that has any worries about shortage of food, especially since there are countries with barely any food to live on at all...but should we be thinking about the future of our own country's food security too?
I've been looking at these links:
The same things seem to be consistent in all of them; we're exporting almost half of the food we product, relying heavily on imports to feed ourselves and waste a ridiculous amount of it.
It would be nice if we all stopped taking our food for granted and started to think about the impact it may be having on our country's future. 8 million tonnes of wasted food a year is an appallingly high statistic, especially when you consider our increasing food prices.
