Great post.

Perhaps, the greatest economic demon that needs to be slayed today would be Reagan's "trickle down economics", guilty of most of today's economic problems, but if we add protectionism to that equation, things will get so much worse it is not even funny.

Interesting.
Add protectionism to that and you will get India.

free trade is indeed a part of an better society. having equal grounds and an even market provides more choice and better products. however, corrupt governments and organizations make so much money from trade disparity and deficit that they will fight any notion of a truly free market.

in truth, i am an idealist and hope that we can rise above capitalism.

Very true nomadHAR
I am also hoping one day children have as much choice in education as people have in products of free markets.

Just an IMPORTANT REMARK from my brain: before sign the petiton I have to make sure that this is not referring to free trade as described in Wikipedia. This kind of agreements result VERY harmful for the low cost producers: the providers of raw materials. Why? because I buy 10 oranges from you at 1 cent and then I sell you the proccessed juice from 10 oranges for 5$, how is that? do you think this is fair?

There is also the fact that strong economies usually are not honest at all, they breach the agreement: they keep applying protective policies when they shouldn't, and the WTO looks the other way, the WTO is always on the side of the richer countries, of course! THEY have the money, so they have the power.

Hence, I would trust more on "balanced trade" and "fair trade" instead of false/fake risky or nasty Fault Trade. T

Ternura, have you read:
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2007/05/the_double_thanky...

and

http://www.thefreemanonline.org/columns/the-challenge-of-liberalism/#
?

http://www.republicofmining.com/2010/03/06/raw-materials-protection...

Quoting:
"Western governments are becoming increasingly concerned with this protectionism, primarily because of the direct impacts on western manufacturing competitiveness. By diminishing the availability of raw materials in the free market, the Chinese government causes western manufacturers to pay higher prices than they would otherwise. Conversely, by enhancing the supply within their own country, Chinese manufacturers pay lower prices for raw materials than they would otherwise."
Its a double loss situation.

You have confused me a little, I'd like to get nomadHAR's thoughts on this..

Only corrupt and greedy organisations construct barriers on free trade so that they can benefit from the losses(Economic and Freedom) of the people,
This petition wants to put and end to it, thats what I believe.

"corrupt and greedy organisations" Are we talking about the WTO organization...again? ha, ha, ha.I an not discussing the good intention of the petition, just that I am affraid someone uses this feedom to trade for the opposite purpose.
My opinion is that Free Trade will be just a "fairy tale" until transparent mechanisms are put in practice to prevent corruption. When I see a draft sketching those mechanisms I will sign the petition. This is what I would write on a letter to the Foundation for Economic Education and I guess they could actually provide this draft :-)

(Well do huge organisations like the WTO act according to any other interests but their self?)

I really am not aware of how free trade can be used for corrupt practices, do you have any information like Ted talks/links to articles on this?

I should have researched the other side of the argument too.

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
