A crash course in changing the world.
In this blog post I will try to design a new urban agriculture project for Brunswick, Germany. First of all let’s take a look at the map below. I took a screenshot of Brunswick and its surrounding area, within a radius of about 40 km. It is obvious, that most of the area is already used for agriculture (brown/orange). On that score we do not have to use the inner city for growing food or rather there is no need to do it.
However, I thought about what we could grow in addition in the city. Brunswick has a lot of green areas around the city center. On the next map you can see a green belt, which is guided from the river “Oker” around Brunswick. If you want to see a breath of nature while you are shopping or during lunchtime at work, you have the possibility to go in one of the parks for instance near the theater, the museum or university.
Everything fine, but I miss one thing in those absolutely nice parks: You do not find any fruit trees there. My proposal is to lay out areas for apple, cherry and pear trees in the existing parks. There would be enough space to plant a lot of them. Whether the fruits are sold or are free to pick by visitors in the park, has to bring to an issue, when such a project engages. For now this is only a conception. But I think it would be realizable.
