Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

I was thinking today while in school of a way to try and get more of the students interested in recycling and volunteering. A lot of the people I see just don't seem to want to help out I guess they either might not find it "fun" or "entertaining". Since I have been starting my garden project I was wondering maybe if I got them to help out by making interesting garden decorations out of recycled goods could be a fun way for them to get involved. I just think that maybe if I make it seem more fun more people will be willing to try and help and get involved. Maybe they will even start a garden of their own. :)

Maybe you should build a recycling bin like these this one. They have some more ideas at thefuntheory.com :-D

+1 Creativity. How about giving them a cause to work towards e.g identifying a challenge/problem in your community that may be solved by students volunteering to do something? Good luck. Will read back to see how your project goes.

I think Shakwei makes a great point, having a concrete problem to work on that the students can see their impact could help a lot. Often problems can seem so huge that it's easy to feel overwhelmed. Emphasizing the social aspects can really get the bodies out as well. My college gardening group had trouble getting people out to do the garden chores until we came up with regular times that so many people committed to coming. The funny thing, people ended up staying for way longer than they had said they would, once they got working with the group. Regular sharing events, like potlucks, also really nourished the spirit of community.

Your idea of a garden decoration party sounds fantastic to me. My biggest lessons from the garden club were make it concrete and make it social.

engaging more than just a few people at once and getting them to work together will probably works best.
do you remember tom sawyer painting the garden fence white?

you might not want to take it this far, but the idea remains the same.

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development.The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
