A crash course in changing the world.
The most important lessons of the case study "Conflicts between nomads and arable farmers - establishment of grazing reserves" is that there is always a way to solve a conflict.
There were a lot of arguments and problems between nomads and arable farmers in Nigeria because of their living conditions. Farmers need their arable lands to survive and nomads need place and forage for their livestock. So nomads cross the territories of the farmers -> the cattle eat the farmers crop which were dung with chemical fertilizer -> all in all it was chaotic and land was used inefficient.
The government act in this situation and found a solution: enactment of laws establishing a grazing reserves and penalties for livestock destroying arable farm lands as well as non-use of grazing reserves of cattle.
So finally there were improvements:
-prohibiting the destruction of arable farm land
-grazing reserves for nomads where rage are grown
-providing nomadic education and health facilities
-higher and longer land fertility through the animal dung
All that result in more efficient and intensive use of land, more organized lifestyle and increased well-being for the nomads, increased agricultural productivity and last but not least there was a higher standard of living of the people.
