A crash course in changing the world.
I've was reminded of something really interesting I found a couple of years ago after doing an inland tour of Alaska. Salmon is the most common food in the area and, depending on which part of it you're visiting, the flavour of the fish will change due to the environmental conditions it has lived in...
Being a world away from the cold mountains of the state; instead in the warm, humid stretches overlooking a revitalised Lake Turkana (known as the “Jade Sea”), I took my daughter Molly with me to fish for some salmon. We followed in the traditions of those that came before us, bringing fish nets to capture a selection of fish so we would choose which to keep for our dinner, freeing the rest back into the water. Since my daughter would be four or five years old at this time, our meal would be Grilled Salmon Stew with Mashed Potatoes.
