I believe one of the resources we seldom tap in to in urban life is our own physical strength. No, I don't mean that we need to buff up and start pulling carts and wagons. I think that as technology advances, we are so quick to have things done for us the easy way. With an over-focus on efficiency, sometimes we forget about what we are forfeiting.
There is not one specific invention or design I would suggest for ACT1. I think we just need to think of ways to harness our physical strength to power up our everyday gizmos and gadgets. What if we had to hand-crank a wheel for a few minutes to use a laptop (just like the one child one laptop concept), or what if we had to pedal a bike for 15-30 minutes to charge a battery or a phone. Not only would we be finding a new energy source that has been somewhat untapped in the urban sphere, but we would be living a healthier lifestyle! Saving the environment while also preventing health conditions that could cost people their lives. That's a win-win.
