I see myself as having been an administrator (principal) for ten years so I can retire at 52 with the most knowledge I can from our school system. (I have taught for 14.5 years.) This matters to me since I want to go to other countries and facilitate education and support for teachers.
Many teachers are not given the tools they need: education on learning disabilities and how to teach supporting students who learn differently. Many countries don't have cla**** or workshops on the different intelligences (Gardner), learning styles (Dunn and Dunn), social styles (Phillips/Alyn), thinking styles, etc. Look at Birmingham Multiple Intelligences test for an example of what I mean.
Take it yourself, it is in several languages. I haven't even included learning difficulties like dyslexia, pearl vision, brain trauma, auditory processing problems, etc. Teachers need to know of these issues and how to address them in the classroom. We need students to feel successful and understand that just because they may learn differently, doesn't mean their stupid.
I have been teaching workshops abroad but we need more.
I want to influence the educational system to support the teachers who influence the world.
