i've returned to quebec after 7 months of absence to find my province sabotaged by politicians. with friends i've discussed a variety of guerilla actions, or even just the possibility to head to toronto this summer for the G4 summit, meet-up with activists and
contest the decisions our leaders are taking in respect to our heritage, our resources and our fate.
this is perhaps the main reason why, in sudden frustration, i've decided to try and do something now, something soon about the way things are happening around me, and the reason why i embraced this fantastic game when i was looking for a way to empower myself, and this is the first mission i accepted (though not the first completed).
police in full riot-gear at the montebello conference protecting our national leaders form our words
there have been many cases of violent reactions to peaceful and not so peaceful protest to which i have been witness, both of them causing chaos and confusion where there should be organization, quick adaptation, and easily accessible to the minute information. in a scenario like this one, ushahidi would be a useful tool to quickly inform on the whereabouts of foreseen or happening conflict against armed forces, on the arrival or departure of certain political figure, the location of any public announcement in the hopes that well timed and placed actions could out-stage and out speak the corrupt politicians of today's world with a more meaningful message.
quebec, thousands of people braving the walls of barricades and smoke grenades to try to make their voices heard during the FTAA in 2001.
with this kind of information, it becomes easy for the media to cover the violence done to protesters, the coup messages and actions, and the wh*** unfolding of people rallying against the powers that be and start creating a doc**ented history of protest (if only through the information log gathered by ushahidi).
