A crash course in changing the world.
So here's some tips on how to amp up a skill that's pretty basic in all four corners of the world- writing. I think it's important to know how to twist words and play scrabble, to express and challenge, because great ideas always bleed through paper.
-Cultivate voice. Plastic is transparent. Be you in words.
-Blend discipline with spontaneity. Don't make writing too much of a routine, required task. Write a few minutes a day but don't write for hours unless you've got the bug to rock and roll.
-Read. Read. Read.
-Write for your reader. Let him or her know you're there. Sympathize, humor them. But punch them if they need it.
-Experiment. Dabble in all styles and genres. Just because you're gung-ho and love Clint Eastwood doesn't mean you aren't a Nicholas Sparks at heart. Or Jane Austen.
There we go. A few basics I found and still find helpful when it comes to writing. And writing is a pillar in social innovation and change.
