A crash course in changing the world.
In 2020, i imagine that in my country Zambia, the flu pandemic affects majority of the community. My aim in this situation would be to help deal with this problem in the area of schools and how teachers can help reduce the spread of this disease. My choice of area is purely due to the fact that through public and private schools, children may get affected and this may lead to the quickest spread of the disease. With the help of staff, teachers, trained nurses and scientists online, the school can try and reduce the spread of this disease.
The first step would be to create a pandemic influenza plan online. The plan should involve working with local health officials and emergency preparedness officials. The plan would include the following information online:
-Schools may be asked to disseminate information to families online
-responsibilities of faculty and staff to prevent the spread of influenza should be stated in the plan.
-the school may employ nurses and train them in order to help with the recognition and prevention of the spread of the flu.
- itis also important to create a standard surveillance/disease recognition procedures which are put in place and implemented.
-educate students, faculty and staff on how and why it is important to improve personal hygiene. Use simple non-medical ways to reduce the spread of influenza such as covering coughs and sneezes, washing hands and staying home if you’re sick.
-it is also important to review the health needs of students. Some students may have a greater risk of infections. Encourage those families to talk to their health care provider. Some parents may need to be more cautious in keeping their children out of school.
-consider alternative learning strategies such as collaborative agreements with public television stations or local cable access stations, teleconferencing, lessons on CDs or online for children with Internet access at home.
- educate staff, students and parents about: the differences between annual/seasonal flu, bird flu and pandemic influenza; best hygienic practices to prevent any sort of flu or any flu-like illness; and what could occur in a pandemic.
