Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

I thin the most important people in a medical crisis such as a flu pendemic are journalists. I believe that they have a very important role to play due to the fact that they are the ones who will be able to get inforamtion about the disease out to people as well as the ways that it can be contracted and how people can try and reduce their risk of contamination. By giving the media access to this information the government will be helping itself because people will have mnore inforamtion on the disease and therefore take the necessary precautions to try and prevent themselves from catching it. This will reduce the workload of the doctors and with more inforamtion out there people may be able to help out others who are still in the early stages of the disease. Therefore I think that without the media diseases would spread to a much larger group of people and they would spread more quickly. In a disease outbreak I would call all journalists who have access to the necessary resources and give them information about the disease so that it can be passed onto the citizens. Journalists would also be able to broadcast the issues to other countries which could result in aid being sent which is also very helpful in a disaster situation.

With Ushahidi, normal people take on that same role. You are so right about the importance of broadcasting information though.
