IMAGINE- Social Innovation Think Tank

I've been stove-piping ideas, many from the collaboration thread, on how to best allow us all to cooperate, coordinate, fuse thoughts, etc.. to really get out and do. I think I'm going to start chalking out an NPO that does just that, social innovation think tanking as discussed below but also work on creating a website with a forum and resources we can use to start brainstorming ideas and finding others to work with. I found that most people wanted some type of framework for brainstorming, also networking for teachers so they can engage their students, and then some means to extend beyond just this web site. Well, below is a rough look at the NPO I want to start:

This organization will focus on increasing the public awareness, viability, and efficiency of social innovation projects dedicated to solving the problems of today’s world in order to safeguard tomorrow’s generation. By acting as a platform for enthusiasts and thinkers with a solid plan and desire to initiate change we will provide the tools and fundamentals necessary to jumpstarting their individual projects, gaining exposure, and linking them to experts with relevant experience. Our overall mission will be to promote social innovation, empower individual creativity and capability, and enhance and expand nonprofit organizations and their programs.

· Forum divided by region and interested to allow collaboration to occur and ideas to pool.

· Database allows NPOs to post their links and bios. Also, provide links to similar organizations and groups that focus on social innovation such as Urgent Evoke.

· Hosts community NPO fairs to allow NPOs exposure within their communities through job fair type events at local schools or churches.

· Think tank social innovation component to pan ideas, increase awareness of certain issues, and brainstorm resolutions to current problems worldwide.

· Online web media blog with daily articles on social issues.

· Invites individuals to submit project ideas and blueprints for assistance, advice, or direct sponsorship.

· Work with campuses and schools to encourage students to become active in their communities and to brainstorm their own ideas for change.

So let me know what you guys think, who's interested in helping, ideas, etc.. I'm going to try and get a website up by the end of the week to kind of drive focus on this overall idea.

Interesting idea. I have a couple of things for you to consider:

(1) does anything like this currently exist? If so, is your endeavor needed? What added value are you bringing? what can you learn from/replicate from what already exists?
(2) what can be done to seek out *existing* solutions to ensure that efforts launched by participants aren't duplicated unnecessarily?
(3) a clear and concise mission statement will help focus your efforts -- especially in the initial stages. I would narrow yours a bit. Define exactly which communities you are trying to engage [global? a particular country? a particular province?]
(4) Any infrastructure -- any undertaking, network, NPO -- requires resources. This game is about social entrepreneurship. How will you venture fund itself? How will it be self-sustaining? you might be able to pay for a website out of your own pocket right now [but take it from someone who has been down that road] you won't do it forever.

These comments are NOT intended to keep you from being in action. It is an interesting idea which likely has some merit. The comments are intended to help you refine it and make it as powerful and successful as possible.

A fascinating initiative Andrew. You probably could test run some of these ideas within the Evoke Network!

Good luck with your vision Andrew. Don't give up no matter what. Believe in the impossible.

"I love that you've brought this to attention. An extensive database of uncommon but resistant and hardy plants/foods could be developed and organized by climate. Ease of growth and processing should also be taken in to account. I will try to…"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
