Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

In the year 2010 I would propose my idea for LEFTovers.

LEFTovers would start out as a international orginization. Business's around the U.S. would sign contracts to allow food that would normally go to waste, be re-distributed at LEFTovers facilities around the world.

The inspiration for the idea came from working at a buffet. Every night I threw perfectly good food away, that was never even touched. Not only would the food be taken for a good purpose, but also saves space in the trash can. Which in return, also saves the business money on trash disposal.

LEFTovers would be proud partners of Goodwill®. By the year 2020, it will have reached global. The company will have fed millions.

This seems like a great idea and I'm sure you have plenty more inside that bright mind!

Thank you. The only problem I have with anything is knowing where to start.

Jake: there's already some movement afoot in different places to reuse food waste as animal feed and of course in composting and vermiculture. I just put together a post here. I just "discovered" you from a mutual friend/agent and am spending some time getting caught up one what you've posted.

I love this idea!! But how will that work? How long can leftovers last before spoiling?
Comment by Jake Baird on March 12, 2010 at 7:40pm
The trucks that come around and would pick them up, would be refridgerated. Much like the ideas of leftovers from a home cooked meal. Put away in containers. If I was in need of food, I would take some food that was untouched and a day old rather than dumpster diving. Then the food would be served "warmed up" at a LEFTovers center.

Good one! But that would favor the local community more than overseas. How about getting patrons to help reduce the wastage of food? It might go hand in hand with what your idea...like you said you've work in a buffet restaurant before and I know how much wastage of food always happen at buffets.

Ha. It's funny you mentioned the overseas part. I had originally made a blog to share food overseas and someone replied, "what about your local community." So then I changed my idea to just the local community.

A lot of people think Goodwill is about charity, but it's actually about providing work with dignity, expanding job opportunities, and quality of life. The clothing stores aren't to provide free clothing, it's to provide support for the main mission by generating a business model that gives people access to needed items to improve their quality of life while providing job opportunities and financing for the organization so they can carry out other programs for the disabled, people with criminal records, or others who are disadvantaged in the job marketplace.

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
