A crash course in changing the world.

Where would i like to be in 10 years?

At the moment i am studying Buisness and Computer Games at Uni, i know computer games dosnt sound like it can but it can! In 10 years I want to have made up my own social enterprise company that make games for helping children to learn, as many children are visual learners and are struggling from books. Then I want to take the profits from this company to send as many free copys of the learning games and computers as i can to thrid world countrys.

So when i get the call from Tokyo in 10 years time I would like to be handing out some of these games persnally to children.

Deborah, I admire your eloquence and the way you motivate people to believe in the "I can" message. Please have a look at my post called "Another hero I have chosen to shadow! Kiran Bir Sethi" for another inspirational woman spreading the "I can" message!

Any project that supports the nurturing and learning of children draws my moral support. Using technology to invest in our future by helping kids is a great concept and I think it is gaining in popularity.

@Deborah: Oh, I somehow missed to be talking about the Tokyo Food Crisis in my own IMAGINE1 task... i will edit my own IMAGINE1 asap :D

To the original post: Great stuff! You should be able to find tons of collaborators both here on EVOKE as well as in that other universe called 'in real life' ;)

Learning games are good. Keep in mind your own comments. Each game needs to be tailored for the targeted population= culture, grade, skills needed, games they play. Get into contacts with teachers from the countries you are going to try to place the games. Find out what they think is possible.

Nice one Hannah. This is the 21st century, all of us in our 20s now who grew up playing computer games have an advantage when we get to the real world, with our ability to use the technology as if its an extension of our hands. That kind of intimacy with a computer can only come from an immense amount of time in front of the screen.

But while we're sitting in front of our computers, we're not (generally) trying to learn how to use the computer. Rather, we're gaming or researching something, or learning something new. Computers have the ability to pull together a bunch of diverse skills at the same time. You just need to get people to sit down in front of them, and get familiar with them.

Games are great for education, take this one for example!

The Sugar project (www.sugarlabs.org) is one of the projects bringing together free and open source games and activities for children 5-12. Check out activities.sugarlabs.org

hey hannah i enjoyed reading ur post...maybe just a thought instead of just sending out aid to third world countries maybe look at helping the community to help themselves.third world countries can become to dependant on donar countries and this does not solve the problems it just makes it better in the short term.so by enabling people to get the skills and knowlege to better themselves they can transfer this knowledge to others in their community and benefit them all in the long run.

Great idea! Video games can offer a great future for the newer generations in the world.

This sort of action already exists = you must check this out

[ I also think computer games can have an important role in educating children. Specialized teachers ( RASED ) in France use them in a 'psychological' way : they try to make children used to fail in class understand they can also win, and make them feel capable of achieving stuff.
Sadly our government is cutting down the number of these specialized teachers every year ; they will soon disappear. ]

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
