Hello everybody this is Marina speaking, the founder of 'Walk for Water' a particular event within the world wide 'Water Day'. This is the first year for the program 'Walk for Water' to be installed and we hope that it will show people that for thousands of other people, water is simply not easy to get.
In the program 'Walk for Water' people who voluntarily sign up walk for how much water they pick. On our website we have lists of countries, and besides that country is the average distance one family member would have to walk for five gallons of water. When you pick your specific country the games have already begun. On the actual day that the program begins each member participating must keep track of how much water they are using in their daily lives. Our main point in fact, is for them to use the amount of water they normally do, not to cut down on it. Whenever the hit five gallons the participant somehow walk the distance a citizen in their country must walk. You can do this system however you'd like, walking short amounts every hour or saving it for the end of the day, and possibly doing it will a group of friends. The big catch? Each person that is picked is sponsered by the government, and the money coming from this program is donated to the charity 'Water for People'.
As I said before the one day event 'Walk for Water is optional, and people in hospitals, infants, ect. are excused. However if you are an abled bodied person we highly encourage you to walk with everybody else. If you find yourself unable to join us in 'Walk for Water' donations to Water for People are accepted, and feel free to try this experiment on your own one day. We hope that this will make people living comfortably realize that many people in the world have it much worse, and we need to realize how lucky we are. The program 'Walk for Water' isn't designed to alter the world in one day, or save the lives of millions, but we are hoping that by accomplishing this we get the word out, or at least give some people exercise. Thanks so much for listening!
