This would be organizing the non-crisis business community to use their organisational skills to source goods and materials needed to provide a response to the pandemic, without contributing to its spread.
The idea would be to have a simple brokerage website that doctors, aid agencies, hospitals could list their missing supplies required to fight the pandemic in the afflicted area.
These orders could then be met by companies around the world not currently affected, in order to try and prevent the spread of the pandemic.
For example a request for 2000 gloves, masks etc... could be made.
Companies around the world could then commit to fill part or all of an order.
Aid agencies could list out the needed supplies based on their professional knowledge.
This way professional orgnasations or individuals who are not from disaster relief fields, but nevertheless are good at getting things done, could use their skills to help out the professional but resource strapped and limited in number disaster professionals.
The key part of this is ensuring a problems is defined well i.e. what is needed where and by when.
Haulage and transport companies could offer their assistance in transporting goods.
The key here would be to communicate the sense that something needs to be done, and that as well as being an altruistic response is also in their best interest to prevent the further spread of the pandemic to other parts of the globe.
As part of this, another site could be set up to assist preparation for
fighting a pandemic in cities not yet afflicted. However key here
would be to avoid spreading panic.
Possibly the Ushahidi software could be used to allow mobile phones to text what, where, when, contact to a website that adds the order to a list and shows location. To prevent fraud or false orders by people tyring to disrupt the system aid agency outputs in the location could be the 'where' tasked with confirming orders ? althought his complicates things.
