In 2020 I imagine that I will be running the non-profit that I am currently developing. The program is one that brings students from different neighborhoods together. We work with schools so that kids get to meet with students in other school districts once a month for a year. They get to build relationships with students that they never would have met without the program.
Instead of just allowing students to stay in their own neighborhoods and schools, they are allowed an opportunity to branch out. Each month the students get to work with kids from other areas to do community service and also develop their own solutions to global issues. We work with local non-profits, they come and present their ideas to our kids and then the students are given the opportunity to come up with their own solutions to problems that they see in the world. They then present these ideas to a panel of non-profit developers. Some student ideas even get developed into working solutions for issues around the globe.
This program was developed so that students from all different areas and backgrounds get to work together toward a common goal.
This program is in the developmental phases in Seattle WA, but by 2020 I imagine that is will hopefully be a nationwide program.
