Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

Intel is a chip maker right? Well that's what I thought too. Then I happened upon Eric Dishman, Intel Fellow for the Digital Health Group and Director for Health Innovation and Policy. Like many things on the internet I stumbled upon Mr. Dishman accidently while browsing through TED TV. I happened upon his address at TEDMED entitled "Take health care off the mainframe"

Before moving on, take time to watch the above 16 minute clip. It's inspired.

While our elected officials continue to bicker in Washington about the degree of reform we will have (during breaks from telling why the other side is wrong), folks like Mr. Dishman are thinking about real reform. The kind of reform that says, "Maybe the hospital (mainframe) shouldn't be the center of the healthcare universe any more." Maybe 50% (or more) of our needed care can happen at the home.

Personal, pervasive, proactive, customized care using technology available today...right in my home. Using technology together with the great minds we have in medicine we could, according to Dishman, "move 50% of care from clinics, hospitals and nursing homes to our homes.

If you don't know how...you didn't watch the above video. I suggest (again) to take some time to do that now.

I write this post as a call to a challenge on EVOKE. The challenge is to find and follow someone who is a leader in social innovation. There are many, but Dishman was the first to come to my mind. So, to learn more from him I've subscribed to his blog, his twitter feed and joined his facebook group. In the coming days I'll reach out in a more personal way and will let you know the results.

Rather than talk about reforming the current system Dishman is re-imagining healthcare. It's as if we could start healthcare from scratch today and build it anew.

We need to, and Mr. Dishman is one who is helping lead the charge.

"I love that you've brought this to attention. An extensive database of uncommon but resistant and hardy plants/foods could be developed and organized by climate. Ease of growth and processing should also be taken in to account. I will try to…"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development.The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
