Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

The suburb I live in has very little problem with starvation. If anything, we are a fast food, fast lives culture. But there is so much waste here that I find myself ashamed of all the things I dispose of that can never be used again.

Outside my office window is an ornamental cherry just about to bloom. I love cherry trees and always have. Kyoto, Japan during cherry blossom festival is one of the most beautiful places on earth. One thing I always found unfortunate, though, was that the blossoms were ornamental, and they bear no fruit.

The Atlanta Local Food Initiative is moving toward creating locally sustainable food. One really fascinating program they run is called "The Incredible Edible Grow-It-Yourself Fruit Tree and Berry Sale". They sell hundreds of fruit trees and berry plants in January to people to plant in and around Atlanta. The plants were sold out within hours. People around Atlanta are planting fruit trees for future generations to enjoy and eat. I decided that this year, I would do the same, and plant something that will be around for generations. I am still researching what that will be, but I will post a pic in response after I plant it.

Their website states:

"Since its founding in 2005, ALFI’s goals and accomplishments include:
  • Coalition Building - Formed a robust and active steering committee comprised of representatives from 30 agencies and organizations committed to local
    and sustainable food.
  • Strategic Planning – Created A Plan for Atlanta’s Sustainable Food Future, the city’s first visioning plan that addresses local and sustainable food systems. The plan was endorsed by 78 community organizations and
    representatives.
  • Local Foods Promotion – Worked with Georgia Department of Agriculture, Georgia Organics, and other groups to develop publicity materials and logos to promote
    Georgia-grown foods.
  • Food A****sment - Worked with DeKalb County Board of Health to carry out an a****sment of availability and cost of healthy, fresh fruits and vegetables in two
    neighborhoods.
  • Food Security - Partnered with The Georgia Citizens Coalition on Hunger to support their on-site garden development, rainwater capture and food access
through their existing farmers’ market program.
  • Policy Development - Working with public officials to create supply, increase consumption and improve access to healthy, local and sustainably produced foods."

"I love that you've brought this to attention. An extensive database of uncommon but resistant and hardy plants/foods could be developed and organized by climate. Ease of growth and processing should also be taken in to account. I will try to…"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
