A crash course in changing the world.
People are piled on couches, all close friends. It is new years.
Only a minute until the start of the new decade.
You can hear the intake of breath, waiting for the final countdown.
'Five, four, three, two, ONE! Happy new year!'
'Welcome to 2020!'
'Hurrahh!'
Hugs and kisses are exchanged. The minimalistic home seems transformed. A home theatre system displays a 'New Years 2020!!!' message, playing music and custom-creating virtual fireworks. No one cares to harm the environment for the sake of a few lights anymore. A beer bottle is held into a machine, and taken out open and chilled. The beer's owner grabs a glass readily filled with ice cubes and gulps down his drink in celebration.
Where the energy comes from? None of the guests, not even the house owner, could answer that question. The energy comes from everywhere; an internationally connected power network, so to speak. If asked on the spot the party-goers might simply say 'those wind turbines in the Netherlands', 'solar power from Kenya' or 'I simply don't know.'
2020. The beginning of a new year.
