I've known about Kiva for awhile, but in catching up with my EVOKE missions I had an excellent reason to finally get involved. Joining the EVOKE team was also inspiring. One point of Kiva is that every little bit helps, but it's nice to be part of a slightly larger small piece.
I made my first loan to a group in Cambodia:
http://www.kiva.org/lend/195342I went to Cambodia painfully briefly three years ago. There's so much to go into about Cambodia: ancient ruins and tourists, children who know the governor of California but can't read, landmines, poverty, amputee musicians, awesome food.
If you need some history on Cambodia read "First They Killed My Father". It's just as powerful as the title.
There was a little girl outside of Angkor Wat selling bracelets who called herself "spider girl" ... I wish I knew more, wish I could know she was okay. But she called herself "spider girl" and I remember her. And I will remember Cambodia.
Kiva is a small step, but it's a step.
