Jessica Lin had an idea -use a soccer ball as a way to power lights in a small African village. With the help of three other Harvard students, she made her dream into a reality...
The Soccket ball has a generator inside of it that creates electricity when it is kicked or rolled. By playing for 15 minuets, children can power a light bulb for three hours! Jessica realized that every second of the day we spend energy. Even while we sleep, we are burning calories. As the African children ran around and kicked the soccer ball, they were burning energy. All the soccer ball had to do was use this energy to create electricity.
Today, when people talk about charging our phones while we walk, or generating energy while we ride our bikes, they are talking about tapping into a natural, replenishable resource, people! All of the actions we do each day are a potential way to harness energy. Jessica Lin saw this, and was able to make something out of it. Just imagine all of the electricity we could generate! There's a world of possibility.
